Project Management and Process Improvement

Below are some of the projects I’ve managed and roles I have had.

2015-2016 University College Cork, Ireland (UCC)

Started a 12 month contract in UCC in November 2014 in the alumni engagement and fundraising space. Contract extended for a further 12 months. Re-built the team, improved processes and practises and drove new activities – most notably pioneering UCC’s fundraising phonathon branded UCC Fónathon 2015 and UCC Fónathon 2016.

2011-2014 Nualight Ltd., Cork, Ireland

Nualight develop and manufacture high performance LED lighting tailored to their retail customer environments.

Project managed all new products, created and drove a global documentation and change control function. Promoted in December 2012 taking on additional responsibility for Product Configuration, Certification, Prototype Lab and R&D Purchasing. Led the R&D team for 6 months in a product portfolio upgrade.

2010 Translation Back Office (Argentina based Localistion company)

Developed the Localisation and Virtual Project Management business in EMEA and USA. A new and very exciting business model combining the value and flexibility of outsourced resources with the reliability and security of full-time professionals working under one roof in an established company.

2008-2010 South Cork Enterprise Board (now South Cork Local Enterprise Office (LEO))

Mentored 20 clients to grow revenue, introducing product development and project management disciplines. Co-developed the IT Business Development Programme with an International Sales and Marketing consultant, bringing in SMES from HR, Law and Finance.

2005-2007 Biosensia (formerly NanoComms)

As the company’s Operations Manager I project managed the development of the world’s first roadside sensor for drugs-of-abuse utlising molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs)

The project team consisted of

  • a team of PhDs and Engineers in Ireland (reporting directly to me)
  • a research team of 15 in a leading University in the UK
  • a leading roadside detector manufacturer in Wales, and
  • an R&D company in Sweden who pioneered the use of MIPS in commercial filtration

Achieved proof-of-concept in this project as well as managing 12 Framework 7 EU projects.

Developed and managed the IP register and the patent process.

2003-2005 PulseLearning

Business Development Director with the then fastest growing eLearning company in the world. EMEA business development, Sales and recruitment and management of Outsourced Teams.

1981-2000 Apple Computer

5 years as European Localisation Manager, cutting costs by 50% and improving leadtimes by 75%.

10 years as European NPI Manager, introducing all of Apple’s products to the European markets. Started as a Manufacturing Engineer moving quickly into NPI.

Authored and delivered online Localisation courses in Project Management and Remote Team Management on behalf of ProZ.Com.

Panellist at the 2010 Virtual Translators Conference.
Past member of Industry Advisory Board for the Localization Research Centre (LRC) in University of Limerick.

Author of TILP Level 1 CLP course for 2008. Managed Level 1 and Level 2 CLP courses in 2009 as a consultant to TILP.
Associate of Localization Institute, Wisconsin, USA.

Delivered ILM certified Project Management programme at the Irish Management Institute (IMI).
